Taking Your Gun Safe to College

College is a big transition in one’s life. It is typically when most young adults move out of their parents’ house and live on their own for the first time. Many alumni claim that college was the best time of their lives and this should be the case for you as well. However no matter how fun you have, there are always precautions that should be taken to ensure that you and your belongings are safe during any type of situation.

Dorm rooms and other student housing are often a target for thieves because several students have high school graduation money and the latest gadgets that they recently purchased. You meet so many different people and, as much as you want to be able to trust them all, there is the small possibility that they have the wrong intentions. This is why it is necessary to have a place to keep your important belongings and documents just in case. A great option is a gun safe. A gun safe is very beneficial for storing items other than guns– it is easily accessible, it is typically quite small so that you can store it just about anywhere and transfer it from place to place as you move to different dorms or houses, and it is highly secure for all of your possessions.

Proof of Identification

Now that you are living on your own and have to be responsible for your birth certificate, social security card, passport, and other important identification cards, a gun safe is a perfect place to keep such items. Having them all in one safe place will save you (and your parents) from stressing about it getting misplaced or the possibility of someone getting a hold of it and stealing your identity.

Heirlooms and Graduation Gifts

College is often the time that old family valuables that have been passed down for generations are finally in your possession. Whether it’s a class ring, watch, earrings, or photos, having a gun safe will ensure that you can keep these heirlooms safe and eventually pass them down to the next. Even if they aren’t necessarily heirlooms and just valuable gifts or valuables of yours such as watches, jewelry, tablets, cameras, hard drives, etc. a gun safe is a great way to keep them safe.

Credit cards and other financial items

There are many reasons why people open up a banking account as they start college.  Often, students will only use it occasionally for the sole purpose to build credit. With banking accounts come credit cards and checkbooks that can easily be stolen or lost. It can be a hassle if someone gets ahold of them and ruins the credit you’ve been building for yourself. A gun safe is a great size to keep such items safe and protected at all times. Also, if you have cash that is kept only for emergencies, a gun safe is easy to access yet entirely secure.

college friends

College is an incredible experience and pivotal time for everyone, but it is crucial that you protect yourself and your belongings especially in the beginning. You’ll feel vulnerable particularly if you go to college without knowing anybody and you will want to accept anyone and everyone as your friend. However, not everyone can always be trusted but you can take the proper safety measures. The little things count like keeping your dorm room locked even if you are just running to the bathroom, locking your windows if you are on the ground level of the building, ensuring that you don’t leave anyone in your room unintended, and keeping your belongings in a safe. Over time, you will get to know people better and understand who will be a trusted friend of yours but, until then, simply be cautious about the people you associate yourself with so that you can have the time of your life.
